Wizards of the Coast

These sets were made by Wizards of the Coast (WotC) between 1999 and 2003 before they lost the production to Nintendo. Wizards produced 14 sets known as the Classic Series.

In 1999, Nintendo and Wizards of the Coast entered into a partnership to produce and distribute Pokemon trading cards in the United States, Canada, and Latin America. However, in 2002, Nintendo decided to end its partnership with Wizards of the Coast and take over production and distribution of the cards in-house. This was due to a dispute over the licensing terms of the agreement.

After the dispute, Wizards of the Coast was no longer authorized to produce or distribute Pokemon trading cards and had to halt production. Nintendo then took over the production and distribution of the cards, with the first set of cards produced in-house by Nintendo being released in 2003.

It’s worth noting that this change in production and distribution did not affect the popularity of the Pokemon franchise and its trading cards, as they continued to be successful in the market.
